Geoffrey Chaucer: Life & Times

Status:Active, open to new members
When: Monthly on Friday afternoons 2:00 PM-4:00 PM
4th Friday
Venue: The Shed - High Street, Hythe
Cost: £1.00

The course will cover the events that made the 14th century so important in the development of the English nation we recognise today:

  • How England under Edward 3rd becomes the dominant force in Europe
  • The rise of Parliament
  • Social and economic conditions
  • The Black Death
  • The Peasants Revolt
  • How people lived their lives

In doing so, the course will feature works of Geoffrey Chaucer and those of other authors of the time.

The course will consist of a mixture of DVD, slideshow presentations and historical information discussions. It is hoped that group members will take active part in discussions during meetings. Generally the format will be an hour presentation followed by a break and a shorter presentation to conclude.

At present the course is open ended but it is planned to last at least twelve months.
