Meet: Seabrook Car Park
The aim is to enjoy a pleasant cycle ride of around two and a half hours, including a refreshment stop. Steep hills are avoided entirely, and cruising speed will be set according to members abilities and wishes. If inclement weather is forecast, or curtails a ride, arrangements are made to meet in a local café for coffee.
t is particularly important to register as a Group member to ensure any changes of venue or cancellation can be advised prior to each outing.
The start of summer has certainly encouraged many more of our members to join the ‘winter stalwarts’ on our regular Monday morning rides. We recently had a record number of twenty-two riders to start the summer season, and tried out a new arrangement whereby we have an extended ride on the first Monday of each month.
This allows those members who would like to stretch their legs a little more to do so, and continue from one of our regular ‘turn around points’, but doesn’t neglect those who cannot afford the extra time needed and prefer the shorter two-hour rides.
All day rides are also occasionally arranged for days other than the regular Monday meets, with rides from Old Romney to Rye, Romney Marsh to Ivychurch, and St Margaret’s at Cliffe to Sandwich recently completed.
Our regular routes start from the Battery Point car park Seabrook and, generally depending on the direction of the wind, either head towards Hythe via the canal path or sea front, or Folkestone, again via the sea front.
Safety Considerations:
- Helmets must be worn at all times while cycling with the group.
- Members must be reasonably fit such that they are neither a risk to themselves nor others.
- All members are responsible for the good maintenance of their bikes such that they do not cause a danger to others.
- We ride at the pace of the slowest.
- Electric bicycles are allowed.
- All members ride at their own risk.
This Group is participating in the pilot trial whereby members can apply to join online - see details on the Self-Registration page.
